Community Garden Volunteers welcome at Bishops Palace

A new garden is being planned at The Bishop’s Palace and needs a team of enthusiastic, green-fingered volunteers to drive it forward and make it a hub of community activity in Wells.

Located adjacent to the City allotments the Community Garden will be an area where people/members of the community will be able to learn new skills and take part in activities such as learning about vegetable growing, flowers and herbs. It will also offer a welcoming place where people can meet new friends and enjoy access to a wildlife area.

What does work involve?

Initial volunteer tasks will involve clearing the area to be used for the Community Garden, building beds and generally getting the garden ready for the growing season next year.

Once the garden is set up, general horticultural tasks such as propagation, planting, weeding and harvesting will be required. It is anticipated that this role will also include mentoring new volunteers as the project progresses.

Successful applicants will be able to work well as part of a team, be happy to work outdoors in all weather, are able to do some manual work and have the skills and enthusiasm for mentoring others. Horticultural experience would be an advantage.
