Over a wider time-scale we hope that more projects and people will join us. Celebrating food and growing at the height of summer, participants will experience abundant gardens and the opportunity to cook with seasonal produce.
We are developing plans to work with Mind in Sedgemoor. We hope to nurture interest in growing food, using some raised beds around the corner from the Sunnyside Up Cafe in Bridgwater. There are also opportunities to run some cooking sessions using fresh produce.
Somerset Community Food, is a grass-roots charity in Somerset which aims to re-connect people with the social, health and environmental effects of growing, buying, preparing and eating local food.
We are organising a series of opportunities to visit productive allotments, gardens and smallholdings across Somerset this summer. See the poster here.
The organisation runs Get, Set, Grow and Get, Set, Cook courses across Somerset.
A recent project, Somerset Land and Food, aimed to bring more land into production for community based growing projects. Demand for land exceeds supply in many parts of Somerset so the project sought to match landowners with available land with local community groups interested in growing food. It also helped people develop the range of skills and gain access to the tools that will enable many more people to eat affordable, locally grown and healthy food.
